Leaking shut off and humming noise
I have leaky shut off valve and humming when I shut off the water to my tolliet.

I have tighten up the packing nut but it still leaks.

Could the setting be shot on the valve itself.

I will have to turn off all the water to house to change due to other valves not working. Is their anything else that may be wrong.

Can't have the water off to long w/ 3 ladies in the house...

    Thanks J

Is this compression fitting angle stop valve?
    Get replacement valve,
Send ladies to church or out to get donuts.
    Change valve.
Loose washer causing humming could be in stop valve or in ball cock/ fill valve.

Where is the shut off valve,(see image) leaking from? The stem or the packing? Is the hum coming from the shutoff valve or the ballcock in the tank? Back to you, Tom

You have a loose washer in the stop that's vibrating against the seat. Shut the water off to the house and replace the stop. TIP: You may keep the old compression nut and ferule and reuse them. Simply install the new angle stop using the old fittings. Much easier that way. Good luck, Tom
