Tub drain latch won't stay open
My father's Drain but he called me and I am stumped. It is a flip un to open down to close levers attached to the overflow plate. He wants it down /drain open while he showers but it pops back to closed. He replaced it but is questioning his install and the problem isn't fixed. He assures me the drain isn't clogged as so long as he holds the letch down manually it drains just fine. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The latch is spring loaded. Chances are that it rubs against back wall of the overflow. Take screwdriver, remove cover plate and inspect the latch assembly for smooth operation. Also, it is possible that the closer (piston) inside your drain is rubbing against the walls of the pipe. In this case, remove upper plate, pull out rod and piston, apply plumber's grease and reinstall.
