I am replacing a three speed fan switch. Upon installation, the new switch doesn't seem to allow me to get the fan to stop. Switch includes position 1 2 3 and L. What needs to be done to get the fan to stop. Colors are as follows black, gray, brown, and purple. New package mentions a red wire, my old one does not have a red position. Really need help.
