Air conditioning intermittently 2004 Honda civic
I have a 2004 Honda civic with 290,000 miles…last summer the engine was overheating and I could not run the air-conditioning (in fact the A/c would shut down on its own)….I had the radiator replaced and that fixed the problem…

This summer, the car is not overheating, but the air-conditioning works intermittently…If it is hot out…in the 90°’s.. it will work for a few minutes and then blow hot air…the compressor is still working and the a/c fan is running….if I turn it off and drive for another 5 minutes, when I turn the A/c back on it will blow very cold air for 3-4 minutes an then it will blow hot….if the temperature is in the 70°’s…it will work fine continuously …if the temperature is in the 80’s, it will work longer and then blow the hot air…..

I wonder if the a/c condenser is getting plugged and not able to exchange heat with the atmosphere especially when it is very hot and humid…
Is this a logical probability and is there something else I should be looking at ? …I have had the system checked by a mechanic and there is the proper amount of coolant in the system and everything else seems to be Ok with the system according to the mechanic

With many Hondas, it's possible to run the A/C and the heater, at the same time, in order to remove moisture and keep the windows from fogging up. I suspect the problem may be with the control unit or vacuum going to the heater. I would take it to Honda for servicing.

I have a 1990 Civic LX that had the same problem. They told me it was either the condeser fan or the relay for the condeser fan. They tested power to my fan & it worked, so all I needed was the 2 relays for the conderser fan & the A/C. Everything works as it should now. Should be less than $100 if you don't need the fan replaced. Good Luck!
