AirCycler FR compatibility with air handler
We had this 2 year old split HVAC system with condenser unit up on our rooftop and our air handler (heat strip for heating) for our 1 level condo.

Can we use this AIRCYCLER FR to replace our old 20-30 year old honeywell thermostat (rectangular size) to keep a constant indoor air temp as discussed from this site Air Cycler :: Build It Tight, Ventilate It Right. I haven't check all the wirings from the old thermostat so am not sure if this will work though?

Hope someone can help me with this ASAP. Thank you very much.

Take that off your things to do list. It is just another piece of junk. Starting up the motor over and over again will use more electric than if you just let it run.

If you have central A/C you definitely do not want to use his device. It will be putting moist air you just paid to remove back into the air in your house with the outside unit turned off. There are units that circulate all the time at a VERY reduced speed. Those seem to work with out putting the moisture back into the home.

In a hot humid climate you DO NOT want to run your air hander constantly!

After the A/C compressor turns off, the A/C coil in the air handler is dripping wet with condensate. If the fan continues to run you will re-evaporate this moisture back in to the house. Just what you don't want!

AirCyclers are smart. The microprocessor in the AirCycler is constantly watching the thermostat. Only after the thermostat has stopped calling for heat or cooling does the AirCycler start timing the OFF period. This guarantees you won't have the air handler running with a wet coil.

Many builders who WANT to run their air handlers constantly use AirCyclers to provide a "drip dry" time by setting the OFF time to 8 minutes or so for drying, and then set the ON time to Unlimited so the fan runs until the next cooling call is done.

AirCyclers were developed as part of the DOE Building America program and have been used by the hundreds of thousands by large production builders as well as custom builders of high quality energy efficient construction for over a decade.

If you would have read the original post and not been so quick to try to defend your product you will see that the building has a 20 or 30 year old thermostats in it. That means that the building is 20 or 30 years old to start with. So the Air Cycler Build It Tight Ventilate It Right is basically worthless under those circumstances.

    In your own words.

((AirCyclers were developed as part of the DOE Building America program and have been used by the hundreds of thousands by large production builders as well as custom builders of high quality energy efficient construction for over a decade.))

The building that is the subject of this discussion is not energy efficient being 20 to 30 years old.

As far as a thermostats controlling the blower with variable on and off cycles Braeburn and others already have this device so it is NOT BIG DEAL.

In our testing at the university we looked at and tested many supposed energy devices.

One of the best ones we found was the A-1 unit which I have enclosed a bit of information on. I am not a paid critic as you are since you work for the company. I am retired, independent, and have 42 years of HVAC experience with my smallest corporation having 47 men on the payroll driving around in trucks all day making repairs all day long. When I retired I felt I owed the HVAC business for all my success and now I teach (augratis) for free when I feel like it.

The devices you have are nothing more than a simple cheap blower controller as most others are. I am not saying that yours will not work it is just that they leave a lot to be desired in my opinion.

I also find it kind of funny that someone would mention a product on this home owner repair board then someone from the company comes to its defense. Sounds to me like a put on deal to sell more of your equipment. LOL

This unit was tested at the university under all weather conditions in our weather chamber and so far has been the best to date for overall energy eficiency and comfort.I would like to add that Carrier Corporation(you know the biggest HVAC manufacturer in the country) has been using this device for 4 years on there fan coils systems with no complaints. I have three in my main home. One for each zone running back to the master computer that controls it all. Yep my home is not the usual cracker box to say the least.

Variable speed CAC Constant Air Control is the only way to to. On and off time delays are really old fashion. Sorry but that is the way I see it.

You might also want to look at this web site. It is packed with truthful information. I have known this guy for years and was selling this product many years ago. It is not as up to date electronically but it does the job especially for comfort.

First of all, I am not in business with the AIRHANDLER company. I did email them directly to find out if it will work for us. Perhaps, they saw this site -- contacted me and explained everything I needed to know...

So far great insights for all these... I do agree with these multi-dwelling 29 yr old condos are not energy efficient, and we need something more that just controlling the thermostat to keep an efficient flow of cooling (summer) and warming (winter)... I did check on this site for the FAN HANDLER, but once again -- compatibility issues, pricing, and installation be our concerns again. Even if we do change everything what's inside our condo, it will not be as 100 % efficient as to compare to the quality of the exterior... (typical brick veneer material with old window type apartments)

Thank you for this great help!. Close topic, perhaps? :)
