    Unwanted Right Click Window
Now and then when I try to open a program on my desktop a right click window opens with a list of options starting with "open". I can open the program with “open” but nothing works after that and the computer freezes so that I can only shut it down with the on/off button. After re-starting a couple of times I can get the computer back to normal behavior. This happens with out my ever touching the right click button. What is going on?

Actually, I'm on Windows XP Pro, and I have experienced this same behavior randomly over the past year. It is as if both buttons had suddenly become right-clicks, but only for a brief time, then all is fine after that. I'd love some suggestions on what might be causing that.

It hasn't happened to me in months, but it has, and it is frustrating. I, too, once cured it by a reboot.

Have either of you tried another mouse?

Yes I am on my second mouse and it still happens. But this is weird. Tonight I was trying to send an email and the stupid right click window opened. I clicked on the "properties" option as a random choice and the properties window opened and then the page froze. Furious I slamed the mouse down on my desk and suddenly the problem cleared and here I am typing this response!?

USB or PS/2 connected mouse? Try the other variety. Wondering if you have a bad or flaky port that's hanging the I/O bus (the freeze).

Mine is on my laptop, built in touchpad. And it couldn't BE more random.

Static will cause all kinds of funkiness with touchpads.
