If not the depo, it could also be a result of stress, that sometimes affects women's periods, a lot more then we think actaully. Are you drinking lots, or doing drugs, or on any meds? And if you get pregnant, then your body finds a flaw in the baby, or embryo, what ever you want to call it, you will have an unexpected period. Though I've bin told they hurt more, and you can usually tell if it is that, mind you different strokes for different folks.

Here is some info on caffine and you reproductive system, you may want to cut back to say, one a week or less.

"Starting your day off with a cup of joe may help you wake up, but it can put your fertility to sleep. In clinical studies on women, drinking coffee was found to decrease their ability to conceive within 12 months. The more coffee the women drank, the more their fertility rate went down. While women who drank one cup of coffee a day had a 55% increased chance of infertility, women who drank three or more cups of coffee a day were 176% less likely to be able to conceive within a 12-month period."

Don't just cut it out all together though, your body is addicted to it, it is a very addictive drug. As for your periods, I stick by the idea that you had a natural abortion. I'll look some more up for you though.

You may want to look at this, it's long but may help. At any rate a doctor could help you better.

"With regard to health behaviors, compared with women with regular cycles, those with irregular cycles were more likely to have sought medical care for menstrual problems and they tended to report more frequent caffeine consumption."

I had that over a year ago and my cycles were still irregular up until now but this month we found out we conceived. I now tell everyone I know not to take the depo because it really messes up your system and it made me crazy!
