I have written on here before thinking that I had a certain problem for not getting my period in 6 months now... testing came back with high levels of prolactin but now my levels are normal and MRI came back normal and ultraounds normal so I'm back where I started... wondering the reason why I have missed my period. The Endocrinologist is now testing me for my male testosterone levels to see if this is the problem. Does anyone know what happens if this is the case? Are there meds out there [and which?] that help you to get your period back for this? Someone please help! Thanks!! :confused:

Has any of your doctors mentioned the possibility of PCOS? There can be elevated testosterone levels, and thus irregular cycles. By chance do you have any issues with facial hair... weight? These too would also be possible indicators of PCOS.
If the levels are high, what they might do depends on how high... sometimes being on birth control pills for awhile can help regulate your cycle... other times they may want to go with other medications, but it can be dealt with if that is indeed an issue for you.

It has been 6 months now w/o a period... what do you think the reason is? The doctors haven't mentioned the possibility of PCOS... I had 2 types of ultrasounds and they said that everything came back normal [no cysts]... so is that why they haven't mentioned PCOS? Could I still have PCOS if ultrasounds were normal?

No issues w/ weight, but I've always been a hairy type of person... genetics... but no sudden hair growths. Would this be a sign for elevated testosterone levels?

Do you know what types of meds are out there if this is the prob? i.e.. Names. [only because I would like to look up info on the internet] thanks for your response!

It could be why PCOS wasn't mentioned as not everyone having PCOS will have cysts. The thing with PCOS is that it can be an issue, even with only a few of the usual symptoms present. It usually is diagnosed after a few things have pointed that direction.
It is one possible reason for the situation you have been experiencing, but of course your doctor would make that determination. Elevated levels of testosterone would be a possible "symptom" for PCOS.
IF it is detemined that might be the issue at hand, what they decide to try will be based on what your blood work shows. Birth control pills are sometimes used (with some being better than others again depending on your blood work), Clomid is a popular choice... although it should only be used when truly necessary and the doctor should be monitoring the use of it... Metformin is also popular, especially when other things have not been successful.
It may not be PCOS at all, but that was just a possibility to consider and maybe ask about if you do end up having elevated testosterone.

Just an update - results from bloodwork (male test.) were normal... so alas, no more high prolactin levels, everything fine, ultrasounds normal... I'm going to my Dr tomorrow to ask her now what? What induces menstruation since everything came back normal? Provera? Should I ask about this?

Provera is probably one of the more commonly used meds to see if your body responds with a period. You can also ask about trying Vitex... can take a few months of use, but some women respond well to it with regular periods. There are other herbal supplements that some women have success with as well... your doctor may or may not be familiar with them. Certainly inquire before taking anything on your own as something's are best used on their own, while others benefit from being combined with something else. While they may be "natural" that does not mean they are without risk for certain individuals.
