I have a 1 and 1/2 year old american pitbull terrier. She is an outside dog (ive tried to convert her inside but she is not potty trained, and has no interest! and she chews everything! My problem with her is she pulls off every collar i put on her. ive always bought her the "TRADITIONAL" dog collars and ive even tried to put them on tight thinking she wouldn't be able to slip them but no matter the collar, or how tight it is, she is some kind of escape artist or something and she always slips them off her head! Im not afraid of her biting someone or attacking another dog because she is super friendly but im terrified shell get hit by a car or encounter a dog that isn't so nice! ive tried a metal choke chain also but it irritated her skin badly and i didn't like how it always seemed like it was choking her so preferably nothing that's all metal.
Please any suggestions would be great!!

Ps... ive tried to put her in a kennel but she literally chews through the fence! After the metal fence, we spent a lot of money on a wooden fence and she literally busted through it, resulting in injury. So fencing her isn't an option eather! Please help!!

By halter, do you mean a harness? i've tried a harness and took her to a pet store to get the right fit and she backs right out of it and takes it off! Any smaller one the pet store said would pinch her skin really bad and give her sores. I don't yell at her, i know that would be pointless.

Lol! WVH wasn't saying that you yell at your dog. Internet etiquette asks that posters don't write everything in caps because it's read as yelling.

It sounds like your dog needs a lot of obedience training. I would absolutely recommend getting a professional involved, at the very least through classes. You should also get some books on proper dog training. I can't imagine being able to raise a dog without one. It must be taught safe behaviors. All problems have their solutions. If you can't find a single harness that works, you might consider having one specially made to wrap around more parts of her body in a safe and comfortable way. Remember, you're responsible for your dog!

First of all it sounds like you probably shouldn't have a dog if you can't take the time and patience to properly train her. But if you insist on keeping her invest in an electrc fence. It involves cables being buried underground and the dog wears a collar that will shock her when she gets too close to the buried wires. She probably won't try and get out of the collar because she won't be tied up. Thet are 100% humane and available at any pet store.

P.S. It is illegal to teather your dog up for more than 1hour at a time.

I don't really feel that slipping a collar is bad behaviour. Some dogs are just really good escapre artists. My dog can slip any collar in 5 seconds and any harness(even the anti-pull harness) in less than 15 seconds. So the Escape Artist Harness is great. But its not like he was untrained and always tries to get away. He's an indoor dog except for when he needs to go outside than he is tied(being a husky he can not be trusted off-lead). And I can stand at our door and leave it open and he would never dart out. He waits for us to hook him up and give him the OK.

Pitbulls tend to have necks that are larger than their heads, so it is very easy for them to slip their collars. I'm not going to give advice on collars, but strongly suggest that the owner rehome this dog. You have a dog, from an aggressive breed, that slips collars, chews through fences, and roams the neighborhood. Even if you can find a collar that the dog can't get out of, having a dog tied out in a yard for long times tends to increase the likelihood that the dog turns aggressive and bites when it gets loose or someone enters its territory. This is an entirely inappropriate home for this dog. She's not being adequately socialized or trained. This dog is going to wind up eventually being picked up by animal control when one of the neighbors complains about it escaping. Please, think of the dog and find her a new home with people who will take the time to give it adequate training and allow her to live inside as part of a family.

You really need to get the dog inside. You should be able to housebreak her following the instructions in the sticky at the top of this forum.

She is not mean at all, she is very submissful to dogs and loves all people. She comes in when we aren't at work and at night but has to be tied up during the day because she won't house train and she chews everything! I have 2 other pits &im well aware of how to take care of them and the socializing they need. Rehoming any of my dogs isn't an option, I am attached to them and they are well taken care of. Also she doesn't the neighborhood, she comes in the doggy door and stays in the house when she gets loose and all my dogs are microchipped just in case.
