I just had a shower faucet repaired (washers replaced), but now when I turn the hot water on low-to-medium it flows fine and then the flow starts decreasing. If I turn it up a bit, soon it starts decreasing again. This does not seem to happen if I open the valve wide open, but that is a waste of water. I have experienced this from other faucets, what is going on?

This problem usually happens when there's some debris,(a chunk of mineral buildup or broken piece of washer) and you fail to turn the water back on when the valve's open to flush out the valve body and supplies. Try this. Shut the water off, remove the stems and washer assemblies and turn the water back on nfor a minute to flush the system. Let me know if thios helped. Regards, Tom

The plumber removed the stems and flushed the system, but we still have the problem. The plumber is is baffled, and we are frustrated. Could this be caused by a washer that is too soft? When closing the valve, the washer could compress, and then when opening the valve the washer could slowly expand... letting water through until it expands to close off flow?

It predates our purchase of the house, probably installed in the 80's. It has no branding visible. The two valve stems are inside the wall and only accessible with special, long socket wrenches (kind of like sparkplug socket wrenches).
