    PC keyboard charcaters
Since carrying out a successful hard drive wipe on my PC (with lots of great advice from this forum) I find that several keys on my keyboard have changed their id. For instance the @ key has now become "; the " key has become @ (so the two functions are reversed); the pound sign is missing - the pound symbol key produces # and the # key has become \. There are others. All the letter and number keys are correct, it's the symbol keys that are corrupted (although not all of them)

I've tried looking for updated keyboard drivers but the Windows XP system tool tells me I have the latest and all is fine. Clearly, all is not.

In Control Panel the keyboard is set to English UK.

    Any ideas please?

You want to go back into the control panel
Find date, time, langiage and regional options
Open regional and language options and make sure everything is set for the correct location, in this case UK.
There are 2 to set on the regional options tab and one in advanced.

    Hope this helps

Yep, had done all that. All three set to UK English.

On the languages tab check the settings in the Details button area. This should let you change the keyboard driver (if you haven't already). Also on the advanced tab, check the "apply all settings to the current user account and to the default user profile" box.
