    I have a very stinky drain in my basement, the smell just started last night any basement on to get rid of the fowel smell?

    Is it a sewer gas smell or a rotting stench? What kind of drain, floor, sink, shower, etc...

    It is a floor drain next to my water heater, and it a I am not sure the differece between the two smell, it just started last night. I guess it smell like rotting stench

    Hey Jaimie,
    Sounds like the water seal evaporated out of the trap and now you have sewer gas escaping. Simple repair! Pour a half gallon of water down to replenish the seal,** or** If the floor drain won't be used pour mineral oil, anti freeze or motor oil down the trap so it can't evaporate away. Good luck, Tom
