Which user is locking an excel file
    Hi all,
Over a TCP/IP Network or other Microsoft similar networks,
Is there any utility or a way to find who is using or locking an excel file?

    Much appreciated
    Joe

If it is an Excel file, it will tell you that the file is locked by a user and provides the user name. It also asks if you want to open it into a Read Only state.

If you right-click on the file and select Security, select Advanced and then the Owner tab, it will show who the current owner of the file is.

Also, if you are running the Macintosh File Services to share out your file system to the Macs, there is a time lag in the file save operation on Excel files such that it thinks that the file has been altered since last save and locks the file.
