Blood when I go to the bathroom.
Okay so, this is going to be an embarrassing question so please, don't make fun of me. Uhm... I just had a really bad stomach ache, so I went to the bathroom (you know, "#2") and there was blood. I went to the bathroom twice, and there was blood both times...

How old are you? Are you on any medications?

Now, this sounds funny, but some foods can make your feces look like there is blood when there really isn't, beets is just one of those foods.

Uhm, I'm 17. No I'm not on any medications.
I just had stuff that had A LOT of hot sauce on it. Could that be it?

It could be the culprit. Also, was the blood bright red or dark?

It was more of a darker color.

You should then mention this to one of your parents and make an appointment to see a doctor. It may be nothing, but darker bleeding signifies that the bleeding is higher up in the intestinal tract than just the rectum.

Is it possible that you may have an ulcer?

Well, I don't know. The color was darker because it was diarrhea so it was mixed... But the parts that weren't mixed were brighter red...
    And I don't know...
    I told my mom..

Have you had diarrhea for a while now or is this an isolated incident?

My grandpa just had a stomach ulcer (that he had apparently had for quite a while) and had your problem (blood in the stool), but since he had it for so long, he was WAY anemic... I think like 4 if that means anything (I think 12 is borderline?). If this happens again, it probably isn't the hot sauce and you should get it checked.

    How are ulcers treated?

Well he had to change his diet. He couldn't eat anything spicy or with a lot of fat. Other than that, medicine like antibiotics and others. If you Google it you should find a bunch of info.

Ulcers are treated many different ways. It all depends on what is causing the ulcer. Some ulcers are caused by bacteria, so antibiotics will be ordered.

The only way to know for sure what this is, and please do not be frightened about the cancer, it's doubtful that's what you have, is to have an occult stool test done. This way they test your BM for blood and what may or may not be causing the bleeding.
