    Purchasing abandoned house
Is the procedure for purchasing homes that are abandoned by it's owners different from just purchasing a home any other way

The procedure for purchasing it is the same. The techniques for getting to the point of being able to purchase it may vary.

What's the deal with the house? Have you looked in county records to see who owns it? Are there back taxes owed, or is someone keeping up with the taxes?

You basically need to get the owner to agree to sell it to you, get a contract, then complete the purchase.

    Can you give more specifics?

All homes are owned by someone, the old owner, the bank ( finance company) or the tax department of the county.

Some counties have owners listed online in others you will go to the recorder of deed ( or similar office) and see who owns it, and if there is a mortgage on it. Then the tax records will tell you if there is back taxes owed and who is or was paying the taxes.

Then you talk to the person or company that owns it and try to buy it
