Hi, I have been trying to test when ovulation occurs. I used Ovalution predecting kit for past ` months, but it showed me a positive result on 20th day of the cycle. I was surprised as I had read that ovulation occurs between 10-15th day of the cycle. [i have a 31 days cycle]
Now, I started charting basal temperature. I found there was a surge in temperature twice! Once on 10th day and another on 14th day. Is this normal? Does anykind of food affect our body temperature? I am really confused now:(

You will often see it stated that ovulation occurs midcycle... for example day 14 with a 28 day cycle. This can cause many women to be off the mark as not everyone follows this pattern. A rough guide is 12-16 days before the next period is due... regardless of the length of your cycle. It also happens that some women just naturally ovulate sooner or later than this so you can see why going by the "norm" does not always work. Just to throw another twist into the mix, if you have cycles that vary a bit, the day of ovulation will also vary. Rough guide in that instance is to take 18 days off your shortest cycle and 11 days off your longest one... ovulation may occur between those days. Again, it is not exact... so starting to have sex several days before you think you are likely to ovulate many increase the odds of success.

With the ovulation predictor kits, you need to follow them to the letter. Keep in mind that a positive on the OPKs are not the same as on a pregnancy test. With OPKs, the results line has to be as dark or darker than the reference line... whereas with a pregnancy test it can be very faint and it is still positive.

With temping and charting you can have more than one peak... some women will have what is called a triphasic cycle... where they will have three phases to their charting. It may mean a pregnancy has occurred, but it doesn't always, some women just naturally will get an extra surge of progesterone during their cycle.

As with using OPKs, when you temp and chart it needs to be done exactly as the directions indicate. Many things can effect the temp... not taking it the same time each morning, getting up before taking your temp, being a bit ill, stress, etc. but food is not one of them... unless of course you eat something before you take your temp orally.
