My laptop does check disk at the beginning of bootup and only gets as far as 5 percent complete. I leave it alone in hopes that it will complete but it never does. I have even left it on all night and nothing happens. Why won't it finish and is there anything I can do?:confused:

Drive may be bad or going bad. Determine your drive brand and model and download the manufacturer's diagnostic utility from their web site, stick it on a floppy, CD, or USB drive and run all the non-destructive tests. Large drives can also take a very, very long time if you have all the options for a full scan checked. What operating system are you running and at what stage does it hang?

I am using Windows Vista Home Premium and the check disk just hangs at stage one so it doesn't even get far. I will look into the info you gave me and thanks. I should have tooken computer repair like I was going to. Oh well, still time.
