I read the post from MYGEL about her/his dog that wouldn't eat. I have a similar problem with my dog. With in the past 3 weeks she has refused to eat her dog food. She does drink her water though. I took her to the vet last week and they wanted to run some tests and keep her for a few days. Only problem was the vet wanted $375-$425. (a little steep) dont get me wrong I love my dog. The vet did send me home with some medicine. Still the dog will not eat her food. Funny thing is she will beg at the table for people food..and will eat people food. She has dropped alot of weight, kinda looks anarexic. Any advice would surely be appreciated.:confused:

As I mentioned in the other post (I think), when our cat became lethargic and wouldn't eat we took it to the vet. Stayed the weekend.

After something like $250 in straight fees, an IV, some special cat food, and prescription beta blocker for irregular heartbeat, I'm guessing we spent 350-400 to keep the cat alive.

The change in food (some moist electrolyte balanced stuff only from the vet) helped her eat and in a while we were able to go back to the dry stuff.

So... spending the money was painful, but I couldn't say no to my wife and daughter, and the cat is still living and happy.

Blood testing at a reputable Vet here in my local area is around $300, plus X-Ray if needed, to find a problem. I paid it for my dog, because I wanted to keep her happy and well. Unfortunately, she passed away last Jan. with cancer. She is really missed after 12 years.
Giving a dog table food is really a no-no. It does not have the nutrients it needs. Try finding some dry dog food she likes. If you get her use to table food, it will be just that much longer she will go without, before you give her what she wants again. The weight loss could be due to a health issue, which the Vet wanted to find out. but didn't.
Did you ask the Vet about feeding her?

Thanks for the reply. We have changed her dog food to 3 different types, still not eating. Someone did tell me their dog had the same issue and finally after a period went back to eating. My dilemma is it's going on 4 weeks and she looks like she took the South Beach diet to an extreme. She just won't eat HER food...

You are quite welcome.
Sometimes, it does take some "tough love" to stop feeding table food.
When she gets hungry enough, she will eat Her food. I went through the same thing many years ago, and it's tough not to give her what she wants.
It's the same with humans. Going on a diet is tough, cutting out what I really like to eat... full of calories!

Robert, were you successful in getting your dog to eat? If so, what worked / do you know what was wrong in the first place? I'm going through the same thing with my 2-year old dog now. He won't eat anything. I've resorted to using a syringe to force-feed him baby food. My vet thinks something is medically wrong, but blood tests and x-rays all came back negative. He's never eaten table scraps, has never begged for them, so I know he isn't just avoiding his dish for the hope of something better. I've even tried giving him people food to see if he would eat it and he won't touch it.
