    Noisy celing fan motor
We replaced an older ceiling fan in our home last night. We assumed that the noisy fan meant that it needed to be replaced. We installed a new Hampton Bay, with light kit. It is making the same noise as the old fan - what would the possible causes of this be?

What kind of noise? Only thing I can think of is improperly or loosely mounted ceiling electric box.

What make/model was the old fan?

    What is controlling the fan?

We have rechecked all the components of the fan - we have actually taken the fan down twice to recheck everything - the motor seems to make a humming sound.

The old fan didn't have a brand on it - but the new one is a Hampton Bay from Home Depot. We have actually taken the fan down twice and rechecked the electrical box - and then rechecked all the attachments and connections on the new fan. It seems to make a humming sound.

What type of wall switch are you using?

It is controlled by a light switch with a dimmer for the light unit.

I think the wall switch is your problem. Replace it with a regular wall switch and both fans will be quiet.
