Currently on the skin lightening market (mainly topical applications) specific compounds are known to inhibit melanin production at the CELLULAR level. This is not a question but more of a poll of preference. Now suppose there is a cream that inhibits melanin prodcution at the GENETIC level which achieves fairly similar results and possibly with fewer side effects, how many people here would give it a try?
Just a trivial fact, homosapiens are 99.9% identical on the genetic level, meaning that there isn't enough disparity for it to not work for certain populations.

Um, currently all the skin whitening products are basically chemcials that inhibit your skin cells from producing melanin. Here's an analogy to clear things up. Suppose melanin is a car and the whitener is a car. The current creams are ramming into the melanin, aka car on car collision to stop the pigmentation. Genetically, the cells can just be programmed to decrease or stop its melanin production, i.e. taking out the engine of the melanin car and stopping it altogether. Is that clearer?

@Rui725 I would try it. It sounds more promising, it's like stopping the problems from it's source. Since its so uppity, I bet it would be more expensive but I would save so I could have my results. Too bad it doesn't excist or maybe not yet. And if the side effects were minor sure, since everything comes with side effects.

I don't think it's possible to tamper with genetics in that way. Besides, if you totally destroyed the gene that constructs melanin, you'd end up with NO melanin in you at all. We'd end up going from wanting to lighten, to desperately wanting to tan.

hmmm. Of course not total destruction! Just temporary and selectivity decreasing an area of DNA expression. Kind of like suddenly deciding to dye your hair a certain color on a certain day.

Well, that's what makeup is for. Bronzer, taking pills (can't recall the specific brands right now) for a more olive glow, etcetera.

It's easy to make yourself look darker. But you can't paint your face white and be light skinned.

.:clapping>; thank you. It apperas t hats it is easier to have light skin and try to get daker than vise versa. I would love to be in that shoes. I see a lot of my friends really high yellow gir l( bi-racial/multi-racial) who are like I need a tan and blah blah. In my mind Im like "let's trade"

I know... like recntly my brother's girlfriend/baby momma came down here from California. We live in Louisiana. She 's like "OMG, I love the weather it's hot and perfect to get my tan on" I'm like WTH? I would love to be her creamy Beige color(sorry for the lack if a better word). What are you using Vicky?

So does this surgery really exist, I heard about a new natural product that is going to be available later this year that whitens the skin permanently and its all natural, can't wait till it comes out not sure if this product is topical or internal.

Ohhh and my girlfriend has found out about a permanent skin lightening surgery that is suppose to help lighten the skin, but I am too scared to take that leap and the counntry that the surgery is performed in is also so scary and right now I am not that desperate.
