    Installing a ceiling fan.
My ceiling wiring has three colors. Red, Black, and Green. My ceiling fan itself has three wires, Black, Blue, and white. How do I install the ceiling fan the right way.

    Sorry,

There needs to be a "White" wire in the ceiling. Black and Red are Hots. Black would go to the fan's black, Red would go to the fan's blue (lights) and green is the ground. You are missing Neutral, the White wire, you must have that!

The problem I have is with the ceiling wires.

If they are coming from a switch, then you should see a Black, Red, White, Green. While White will not be connected to the switch, Red and black will be, the white wire bypasses the switch and provides the Neutral conductor for the fan. BY NEC Code, the Green wire cannot be used as a Neutral return conductor. It is a ground wire only.

I agree with Don. There needs to be a white wire in your ceiling. What was there before the fan and how was it wired?
