We are installing a ceiling fan/light. One wall switch controls the light; the other controls the fan. However, the unit came with a wall switch that controls them both, rather than separately.

How do we combine the two switches so that the light and fan operate on the one control which came with the unit?

Are the switches that are already in the wall in the same outlet box?

What are the colors of the leads from the new switch?

As Hank suggested, please post the electrical section of the installation instructions into this item.

It should have a line in on switch(constant hot), then 2 connections out. 1 for light and 1 for fan.
If you already have 2 switches, then use the existing, to keep from having an empty spot at switch location.

The new switch will replace ONE of the old switches. The new fan will then connect to the corresponding wire in the ceiling. For example, if you replace the switched that used to control the light, then you connect the new fan to the wire that was previously connected to the old light (blue red or striped from the old fan).

This is assuming your new switch only has two wires. Knowing the make/model of the new switch and fan would be helpful.
