I am remodeling my basement. I would like to move a toilet that is sitting on a concrete floor and put a shower where it is. I am on a tight budget so I am considering using a sani-flo system for he new toilet when I move it, but I want to know if I can use the same drain that the toilet is on now as a floor drain for the shower?

That toilet sits on a 3" or 4" pipe that is not trapped, traps are part of the toilet china irself. If you want to make it into a shower you need to break out the floor and install a shower trap on a 2" drain from the shower.

P-Trap is the key word here...

Like these guys said... if need to move toilet and must install shower where toilet is then you need to chop up the concrete, reduce the pipe to 2" and install a 2" ptrap so the riser from the trap lines up with the drain of the new shower floor. A bit of work, for sure, but all LABOR, not really too much money!

One more idea here would be to leave the toilet where it is and to install the sani-flo system to the shower (and sink??) instead of the toilet.

Here, you can purchase the SANISHOWER pump and neo angle shower base. The shower base makes it so you don't need to build a platform as it is built into the shower base itself (or could build a platform with 2"x6" pressure treated lumber and use your own shower base, too... ;) ).

Hello,just a little food for thought,--- if your on a tight budget , then the cost of the saniflo system is going to run you more than breaking out the floor and running the drain for your toilet if your doing the work yourself. The cost in materials needed to relocate the toilet and concrete patch is less than $300.00 compared to the minimum $800.00 just to purchase the saniflo toilet.

I agree with truck. You're going to hafta bust up the floor to install the shower anyhow so break it up a little more and move the toilet. However if cost isn't a factor then check out Marks solution. Good luck, Tom

Hey Truck41 not a bad idea for sure... but I was posting about the saniSHOWER pump... not the saniflo toilet macerator pump system.

In fact, the sanishower pump is only $175.00 in my area (and online) so really a pretty good solution on a tight budget and way less labor overall

However, Wmorg would still need to build up the shower off the floor about 6 inches or so to use the sanishower pump and it may not end up where he/she wanted it.

I would opt for breaking up the floor and running all new pipes to toilet and shower myself just to keep the fixtures on floor level (always looks better)... but I just wanted WMORG to know all facts on price!
