    Hardi plank siding
I have a large 20 year old home with cedar siding that is on the water and is exposed to sun, wind and rain. The siding curls, cracks and expands so nails pop and caulking separates. I'm thinking about replacing all the siding with Hardi Plank and have a price with two options. One is to replace all the siding and all the trim and the other is to replace all the siding only. The first price is almost double the second price so I am leaning toward only replacing the siding as all the trim seems to be in pretty good condition. My question is will it look OK to just replace the siding and will it bond well with caulking with the existing trim. I realize the trim will have to be painted more often than the siding.

You can do the lesser replacement and keep the trim, it just won't look 100% perfect. Read the material from James Hardie regarding installation. James Hardie: Product Instructions
