If this item is still open, I am having the same problem with my 7410. Absolutely no help from HP. It is out of warranty and they will be happy to sell me a new unit.
I get a message to install the printer cartage, the black one, and I have done this a=several times includeing buying 3 different new ones and no help.
I have not compared the printer cartridges and I will do this.
I had to have a printer and so bought a Canon mx700. Not real happy with it but it works.

Any other ideas?

Compare old cartridge with new.If the same size it should fit!
