I have a 1yr old dotson that I have taken over .since I brought her home she hasn't eaten her dogfood. I have the same food that she was eating before and have also bought a new food hoping she would like it and she doesn't. I know she hungry because I felt so bad yesterday that I gave her people food and she ate it right up but I can't keep doing that. I need help.what do I do?

Your daschund is still a baby at l year old and if you are her second parent, then I don't doubt she is not eating. Give her time to adjust and accept her new family, give her attention and praise, and you know you shouldn't give people food in place of dog food. She will eat when she is happy enough to do so, until then be patient with her.

Feeding
- Puppies 8 to 12 weeks old need four meals a day.
- Feed puppies three to six months old three meals a day.
- Feed puppies six months to one year two meals a day.
- When your dog reaches his first birthday, one meal a day is usually enough.
- For some dogs, including larger canines or those prone to bloat, it's better to feed two smaller meals.

Premium-quality dry food provides a well-balanced diet for adult dogs and may be mixed with water, broth or canned food. Your dog may enjoy cottage cheese, cooked egg, fruits and vegetables, but these additions should not total more than ten percent of his daily food intake.

Puppies should be fed a high-quality, brand-name puppy food. Please limit "people food," however, because it can result in vitamin and mineral imbalances, bone and teeth problems and may cause very picky eating habits and obesity. Clean, fresh water should be available at all times, and be sure to wash food and water dishes frequently.

ASPCA: Dog Care

If your dog is just getting used to the new surrondings it may only take a few days and she may start to eat.


It is easier to feed dog food, but if they are not happy eating it what's the joy in their life. Some dogs love it some don't. I feed my dogs the ASPCA recommended way and have for years. I mix the "human food" in with the dog food.


I caution you to not let your dog get fat, it is too hard on a daschunds back, there is nothing worse than seeing a poor dog barely able to walk with excess pounds.
