    Cruise control
My cruise control in my 94 honda civic won't set the lights come on but nothing happens. What Have I to look for? It is a 5 spd manual tranny. Thanks MBF

I may be wrong here, but to my way of thinking you can't have cruise control on a manual trasmission. What would be the point to stay always in fifth gear on the highway. You would have to shift down for traffic and to pass. Automatic transmissions in cruise control do it, well, automatically.

But... even if you are racing, why would you want cruise control?

Was you car converted (at considerble expense no doubt) from automatic to manual and the cruise control feature not taken off the steering column for some reason ? Of course, it doesn't make sense either to make this conversion. It would probably have been cheaper to buy a honda with manual transmission.

This civic was bought new. With the cruise control which worked fine up to about a year ago. I can say I got 150,000 miles of trouble free service except for the usual cv joionts battery and timing belt. I don't know for sure but it may have been converted from an auto to manual. I never felt right about this car when I first got it but at that time my credit was shaky, so there was no room to complain. Thanks for the reply. Cheers. MBF

Cruise control is available for both automatic and standard transmissions.
There are many things that could have failed that could prevent the cruise from working.
The SET switch may not be making contact, a fuse may be open, the module may have failed...
Take your Civic to a qualified shop and have it diagnosed and let us know what they find.
    Good luck.

Captain is correct(well he would sort of have to be cause he is the expert for cars and trucks here) re cruise for standard. Apparently Subaru came out with it first in Australia, but you won't find it on any north american cars unless its special special order, very expensive. Honda don't use it, again, too expensive for domestic cars. So whoever had MBF's car first had it customized. It was a new one up on me; I just couldn't see a domestic with that feature.

The cruise can be deactivated by either the clutch, or the brake.

Check your fuse for the cruise. There is also a switch on the brake/clutch pedal to disengage the cruise so make sure the pedal is up all the way up and switch is working. Lots of vehicles with manual trannies have cruise.(it is always an option- auto or not) My 92 honda does and it is nice when you drive for hours at highway speeds. In Canada I couldn't live without it.

This is for MBT and ddolinger:

You guys make my sick. This lady wasn't born yesterday. I have a 2000 Subaru outback legacy IT DOES NOT HAVE CRUISE CONTROL. My husband's dodge doesn't have cruise control, my Sunfire didn't have cruise control. My sons sunfire doesn't have cruise control. However, my Husbands ex Aurora had cruise control and his very expensive Pontiac had cruise control.

You can't tell me that cruise control is standard equipment on every north american car. It just isn't so guys.

It is still OPTIONAL AND ORDER ONLY.

So, at least one of your disagrees is erroneous. And don't you think I checked my INFO before posting, You bet your sweet A***S I did.

I have lived around Oshawa all my life, been familiar with ordering new cars, have had some old ones, so don't tell me about cruise control.

Maybe Ford did it in the States, but GM certainly didn't offer it with every car they pulled off the line in Oshawa, or maybe even Detroit for that matter.

I really take exception to you two guys, without taking the time to check my profile to find out if I am halfway intellgient you make judgments that are uncalled for. On this forum you really have to take a really good look at your comments and the poster who made them.

Cruise was always an option on most North American cars with or without manual transmissions. Only recently it is becoming more and more a standard option.Who said it was standard on this post?

Dddolinger in his disagree stated it was a standard 'on most manual and automatic for many years'. Under my post 7/12 three above.

Did you ever stop and think that he said it was offered as standard equipment to counter your claim that it was only available through expensive special order? A claim which was way off, by the way.

I had an '85 Accord with cruise control that was standard.
