I have a dog that will poop in her cage
I feel like I have tried everything with my 11 week old Newfie. She has a very small cage. I feed her in her crate three times a day at 6:30, 11:00 and 3:30. I let her outside for pooping after every meal. Sometimes she poops, sometimes it is up to four hours later. I take up her water three hours before bedtime.

I let her inside for playtime with the family for 15-20 minutes at a time when she has eliminated outside. We put her to bed at 10:30 -11:00 p.m. We get up with her at 3:00 a.m. Sometimes she poops in her cage by 3:00 a.m. and then forces out runny stool by 6:30 a.m. Sometimes she has a great night.

I have had her checked by a vet and there are no physical problems. What else can I do to get her to poop outside?

Sounds like you keep her in her cage too much and not much interaction with the family. Dogs aren't stupld, and she could be telling you any way she can that she is just not happy with her situation.I think she needs more time outside, interactive play, so she can learn to do these functions in a more friendly environment. YOu seem to have a very structured environment for her, which is good in a way.

Can you feed her outside the cage? I mean, I wouldn't want to eat in a case three times a day and its mighty unusual to do that to a dog.

What's the point in having a dog if you keep it in the cage all the time? Dogs are just like people. They don't like to be locked up all the time and like to run and play especially if she is kept in a small cage.

Some are actually realizing that "crate training" is not the ideal way for a pup.. but it is a personal choice after all.

As for your potty issue, puppies potty mega times! My pup took 9 plops a day until he was about 4 months old.Talk about a healthy colon! It should ease to 1 maybe 2 or 3 a day when she gets older. Also make sure she goes right before bed.
