    Carrier air conditioner
I have a carrier air conditioner almost 5 years old. After each cycle the outside unit was making a very loud buzzing type sound never heard this sound before. After a few minutes the noise would stop until after the next cycle. It sounded like it was near the compressor. After about a hour of this the unit would not cool anymore and the fan would just blow. Furnace and stat are working properly. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Don

When was the last time the unit was serviced by a professional?

The noise could be the contactor vibrating.

The unit might be overheating causing a shut down of the compressor.

It needs to be looked at with a ON SITE inspection to prevent further damage.

Not since install has it been serviced. I opened the wiring compartment to reset the breaker inside the housing. It will not reset and sparks when pushed in.
