    Changed shower/tub fixtures
    Hi this is my first time. I retiled my shower and got down to the shower and tub fixtures when I ran into a problem. I already threw away the old faucet fixtures so I had no idea what the brand was. I went to purchase new backplate and spout and they didn't work. I went to a plumber supply store and was told that I need to remove the cartridge and bring it in this way they could tell me the brand. I got it out and found out it was a Moen. I replaced the cartridge and was told that this should work. Well I put everything together and the knob just turned around and around. It is one of those one knob shower heads that you pull out and turn for hot and cold.The water that came out the spout poured out the back of the spout. So I took everything off and took it back to the store. I was given something else because they said that once I got the cartridge that the universal parts would work. Well they don't. Not only that but now when I turn my water off from the main shut off switch, the water still comes out into my bathtub, even though I put the new cartridge in. When I turn it, it won't shut the water off. I have to go to the main shut off and turn all the water to the entire house off. I have come this far and hope that I don't have to call a plumber but this is the holiday weekend and I can't get anybody till Monday. Can anybody help.

    Do I understand you correctly;

    You have the old style Moen valve, you pull out to turn water on, you turn left or right for temperature and you push the cartridge in to shut the water off.

    Are you saying that pushing the cartridge in won't turn the water off.

    Yes, the cartridge will turn round and round until you put stem sleave and knob on.

    Moen faucet implements one of the simpliest cartridge systems there are. You just take it out, slip in new one, install trim - and you are done.

    HKStroud correctly told you that cartridge will turn until the trim is installed. Also, make sure that handle is installed so it sits all the way on the stem.

    Didn't you built up your new tile work too much so your existing body valve is now sitting too deep inside the wall and new trim is not reaching it the way it should ? Is the know touching the plate ? Can you post a photo ?

    Moen has a stop tube,(see image) that must be installed when you replace the parts. This prevents the handle from turning 360 degrees.

    When you had the vaqve open did you turn the supplies back on for a minute to flush out the open valve body? Can you give me the number of the replacement cartridge they sold you? Regarhs, Tom

    I took everything back to the store so I don't remember if it was all the way on. And no I didn't turn the water on to flush out the cartridge. I would think with all the water running that it would be flushed by now. I purchased a replacement cartridge at the plumber supply. It was 1225. When I took my old one to the store, he gave me this one in it's place. Maybe one of them, (the fixtures), worked and I just didn't know.I have never used this sight so I am trying to figure out how to put a picture on it. As soon as I do I will post.

    OK this is an attachment with pictures of my valve. It took a minute. Thanks for the help so far. Right now I can't even test it out because I returned everything to the store. I will be able to try again tomorrow
