I have a 15 year old house, with an original heating/AC system. I hoped to connect a new Hunter 5+2 model 44110 digital thermostat, but have run across one problem.

The old Trane Thermostat has this information on it -
Model AY28X105
30Volts A.C. 1.5 AMP
with 5 wires, labelled G, Y, W, R, 2
The Hunter 44110 needs 4 or 5 wires (depending on whether you use the RC-RH jumper) and is a low-voltage system, compatible to 24 volt.
They are G, Y, W, RH, RC

My question is whether the Hunter will not work with the 30 Volt Trane wiring, and if it does, which Trane wires (labelled R and 2) are compatible with the Hunter (labelled RH and RC) wires?

I have nothing on Trane with a (2) in it for landing a wire.
It is probably 24 volts but check with a meter to be sure.
Look at the item below. It might be of some help.
It says heat pump but the wire landing and colors/letters are basically the same. It will tell you what each color means.
Also on most systems thr RH and RC will be jumped together and fed with only one wire and that is usually the red one.

On other sites I have seen references to ignoring the second wire and jumping RH and RC together. I may try that. There is a Trane office on my way to work, but my experience with customer service in south MS since Hurricane Katrina tells me they won't know what I am talking about since the unit in this house is so old.

Cross your fingers,, for luck you going to need it with a hunter stat. they are short lived and J_ nk,, reconsider,for a few more bucks you can get a good honeywell,, do it before you install the hunter,as they might not want to take it back or give credit.

Was R - red and 2 - blue from the old unit?
What did you end up doing with them?
Did you wire the R to the RH and jumpered to RC?
What about 2? Did you leave it off?
I just ran into the same situation. Just moved into a 30 year old home and bought a Hunter unit.
