Why all the laws? Many even contradict each other and very few know or think there could be a problem until they get a ticket. They are changing laws without making people aware of the 'new' laws and fining you

My city alone they said they were doing a smoking ban they fined the DAR for smoking in their PRIVATE club. Then they basically rescinded the law because they realized with casino's being approved they would have to follow the ban. Then they said there was a ban again.
Then they said that the ban was just passed and will be in effect in July.

Fireworks have been prohibited in my state forever. They have been selling fireworks for a few years now. But we are not supposed to use them by law. This year they said you are allowed to shot fireworks. Now they are saying that you can not use them if they shot in the air or sparkle??

They sell lights, 80 windshield tint and hubcap spinners but they are illegal to use and you can't get your car inspected with them.

Parents believe the age of consent for their kid to be with someone is 18 only to find out it is 16 when they go to press charges.

You are allowed to go drink at the bar but the alcohol limit is so ridiculously low that you can't drink two whole beers without them nabbing you for public intoxication (walking while under the influence) when you walk out the door.

In New york and California it is legal to give your kid alcohol but you can get your kid taken away from you for giving him alcohol.

Some places you are not allowed to use your grill in your own back yard.

Many places are banning so many things
They have so many new laws on the books it is unreal

And they say we are not becoming a police/nanny state.

Then the politicians raise taxes to where you can't afford to work and have to go to another county to find work. They don't realize that raising bus fares, parking lot rates and occupation tax to make money actually makes them lose money.
A prime example is they decided we need this bus tunnel under the Allegheny River
Nobody wants it. They already threaten once a year to cut out services that actually do make the money because of their losing money.
After they started construction they said it was going to cost double what they originally thought. Then the local newspaper did an article on how the other tunnel that is under the city is not making any money. So why do they HAVE to have a tunnel they knew nobody wanted??

"So much for the President who never met a tax he didn't want to cut. According to David Cay Johnston of The New York Times, tucked into the tax cut legislation recently signed into law by George W. Bush this past week was a major tax increase for American teenagers saving for college.


The $69 billion tax cut bill that President Bush signed this week tripled tax rates for teenagers with college savings funds, despite Mr. Bush's 1999 pledge to veto any tax increase.

Under the new law, teenagers age 14 to 17 with investment income will now be taxed at the same rate as their parents, not at their own rates. Long-term capital gains and dividends that had been taxed at 5 percent will now be taxed at 15 percent. Interest that had been taxed at 10 percent will now be taxed at as much as 35 percent.

The increases, which are retroactive to the first day of the year, are expected to generate nearly $2.2 billion over 10 years, according to the Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation, which issues the official estimates.

They are talking about new laws all the time. What about the idling vehicle. Now there talking about you can not idle a vehicle longer then 10 seconds. What about gridlock. Sitting in stop and go traffic. There is no --------- way they can inforce a law like that.

As far as smoking and other bans there are always trying to look like the good idea. Like the saviours in new laws. Which most governments make so much money of gas, smoking and other things. Then they are hyprocrital coming up with new bans or laws to enforce changes that do not really make a difference.

I hate government. Its all about the MONEY.

Hey when I was 18 I was a military police officer with two guns and the power to shoot on sight anyone who tried to mess with the nuclear weapons I was guarding or escorting, but I couldn't buy beer in my home state!

People who make laws have to get elected and they try to please everyone. People contact them with specific problems, real or imagined, and try to get a law past to solve the problem without realizing that some unintended consequence will result-happens all the time. And, as was mentioned above, special interest groups are there to try and get their way. And most people don't follow what laws are being made, particularly at the state level. People often don't care, but the special interest groups do.

I have been saying for at least 10 years that it doesn't make any sense they bus school students to 'fix' discrimination reasons which creates another problem they complain about. I see three to five buses sitting in front of schools idling for 20 minutes waiting for school to get out. WHY don't they just arrive about 10 to 20 minutes later?
I know some school buses are necessary but I think they should see if some students are able to go to a closer school.

Our government leaders get worse by the day. I think I told you that here in Michigan while the auto factories and their outsource factories are mostly closed down or running on one cylinder, the state has almost bankrupted. To access more money they've warned that the Police will no longer give a warning, even if it's a tail light or turn signal out, you will have to pay a ticket. They've raised their quotas so much that they come after you if you don't sit long enough stop at a blinking light. BUT the worst is the new law that was just passed saying children up to age 8, if under 4'9" have to be in car seats. Imagine the tickets that will be handed out for that one! And the cost of buying car seats for 8 year olds... plus the kids will be humiliated sitting in a baby seat.

Nobody wants a smoker but the government wants the money from the tobacco companies, so you're welcome to smoke (and pay the high cigarette taxes) - as long as it's in your own house.

We still have a law against swearing at, or in front of an officer, and yet I've heard officers swear horribly at others, and in front of people uninvolved. That's an 'ace in the hole' in case they can't find another charge and really want to get you.

Yep... I'd say we've become a police state. We pay taxes as if we'd never left England. Taxation without Representation will be the cry again. We are not the same America we once were. Not even close!

8 year olds in booster seats forces families with 4 kids to buy SUV's or take two vehicles to a family outing then they complain about you driving in gas hogs.

I have seen police throw old frail people against the wall because they asked the cop why are you arresting my son. I have heard of a couple cases while they were arresting a family member where they abused children that were having asthma attacks, screaming they were faking it when they weren't

PW and Saph- I agree. You both made some good points. City Hall is such a business now, that protect and serve, is a joke. There literally has to be a homicide involved to get the police in a timely manner because their to busy serving up tickets for the chief so they meet the end of the month quotas.

A mall has banned unsupervised teens on Friday and Saturday nights. Next thing, the mall will have a "cover charge".

A local hospital won't allow you to smoke in the parking lot or parked in your own car on their property. That's probably a good idea.

Yeah, use to be a time when a policeman would actually help you but now if it means they can charge you for something they will do that rather than help.

Ex:
Drunk
Old time --cops offered to ride you home
Now--cop gives you a DUI and gives you a ride to the cell to sleep it off.

Car stolen
Old time cops---had it parked at the side of the road until you could pick it up
Now--cop calls tow truck has it impounded. You are stuck paying the tow and the impound fees to get it back

Dog manages to get lose
Old time--cop takes it to the station and tries to find owner to return it before the pound
Now--cop impounds immediately and costs you to get it out and pay the fineS.

I suppose those things are a big part of the reason people are taking movies of police activity these days. Who would believe it happens without film to show? Too bad so many people in power positions aren't decent to their fellow human beings.
