How Do You Lighten Dark Brown Hair?
I had dyed my hair a black about a year ago, and my hair has kind of grown out and the ends have faded, so from the top of my head, I have my natural hair color, and that goes into the kind of faded black that is now a dark brown, and then last its back to where the black has faded completely and it back to my natural color again. Is there anyway to lighten the dark brown color that I now have in the middle of my hair?

You can strip it, but you probably need someone to help you so you can strip only the dark out. Use powder bleach and 30 volume developer fron your local beauty supply store. Mix accordng to directions and apply only to dark hair that needs to be lightened... process until it is close to your natural color. Remember, red is the underlying pigment in black or dark brown, so it will probably be a funky shade of orange and you'll have to color over it once the dark is removed. I need to know what you natural color is to tell you how much to lighten it and what color to put on after...

I have had every hair problem that there is since I color my own hair so often. If the middle section of your hair which is dark is dark due to tint, you can't lighten it without stripping it. Tint won't lift tint. I wouldn't do that though. I would buy a protein filler, if they don't have a brown, then just a clear color. Put it on the ends. Buy a dark brown color to match or close to the middle color. Go to Sally's and get a color that you can mix yourself rather than a box color. Make sure that is is a deposit only colr so that it won't lighten your natural hair parts. The girls there will help you find what you need. After applying the filler, you can apply the hair color and have a nice even dark brown. If you buy a deposit only hair color, you won't be damaging your hair at all, and it will probably look good!
