I think there's a question in there somewhere and not just a comment :). So I'll assume that you want to know how to NOT make your computer boot nightly.

Windows XP maybe configured to automatically reboot when it encounters a severe error (Blue Screen). There maybe a process that runs nightly at or around midnight that is causing the error. What you can do is disable auto-reboot here:

    - Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System
    - Go to Advanced
    - Go to Startup and Recovery section and click Settings
    - Under System Failure un-check "Automatically restart"

So IF your computer is rebooting due to an error then at least you'll have a chance to see it on-screen (Blue Screen).

You should also check your Event Log and look for anything unusual. You can do that here:

    - Go to Start -> Run
    - Type eventvwr.msc /s in the dialogue box and hit enter

Browse the System and Application Event logs for anything unusual around midnight.

Before I go too far I'll wait to see if that is in fact what you're looking for.
