Hi guys. Am expiriencing a problem with 3 of the machines in our office. We have almost 24 computers connected to the LAN and internet. 21 are accessing the internet perfectly well (through a 24 port switch connected directly to the gateway ) but the 3 machines which have been connected through another switch (8 port switch) can access the LAN but hardly access the internet (too slow)!

* The distance isn't that big (less than 20meters)
* Am using straight through cable
* NIC configuration is 100mbps/full duplex

Any assistance will be highly appreciated.

What are the two switches upload port speeds?

Upload speed is 100mbps

There may be a good chance that the 8 port switch is bad.

I'd try adding each separately to the 24 port switch and see if internet performance is OK.

Then I would connect the 8 port switch and try just one computer at a time to verify the port on the 8 port switch is OK.

You are also trying to stuff 3 high speed connections into a 100 mbps port, so someone is going to suffer.

You might also try a small gigabit switch that connects to your backbone and then the 24 port and the 8 port then connect to the gigabit switch.
