UK passport holders having a baby abroad
    To whom it may concern,

My husband and I are both UK passport holders. I also hold a South African passport. We are having a baby in South Africa and would like to know if the baby will be entitled to a British passport. Would they have a full English passport without being naturalized in the UK? Also, would they be entitled to a South African passport.

    Many thanks

    Robyn

Yes, the baby obtains British citizenship from parent(s), and also obtains South African citizenship from parent and birth place.

What you have to do is once you obtain the baby's birth certificate, contact the nearest British Embassy and report birth of British citizen overseas . The process requires copies of your marriage registration or proof or domestic partnership, passports, and another form of ID. You will be able to obtain British passport for the baby immediately.
