Brown blotches that appear and disappear on face
Very recently I have experienced brown circles under my eyes only. I typically have dark circles under my eyes anyway, but this is different. It generally will appear under one eye but not the other and then resolve over a matter of hours. It happened again this week, and my daughter said "oooh mom it has a tail on it this time." Not only was the brown circle under my eye, but it had a line coming down my face as if I had makeup running down my face. It also resolved in time. I am a gastric bypass patient 18 months post op, so I am wondering if some vitamin deficiency could be causing this suddenly. It is worrisome now that it is coming and going. I have an appointment in August, so I really didn't want to go running to the doctor for this if it's a simple thing. It may or may not be related to my surgery but sure makes me wonder what it is.

It may be a vitamin deficiency, however, I have to ask if you also suffer from allergies?

As I'm sure your doctor told you, vitamin deficiency is pretty common in patients with a gastric bypass. Do you have a special diet now and take vitamin supplements to compensate? If not, you may want to start looking into a dietician to formulate a better diet for you.

Dark circles under the eye can point to a lot of different things (including allergies mentioned by J_9), but with your history, I would point to an iron deficiency, which could lead to (if not already) anemia.

I suggest calling your doctor and getting some blood work done to see how your vitamin, iron, and other mineral levels are.

Lishh: just out of curiosity... why prenatal vitamins?

Granted, they're high in calcium, folic acid, and other vitamins... but is there a reason you're suggesting prenatal ones.. She's not pregnant...

Yes I am an allergy sufferer along with very mild asthma. I do take specially formulated vitamins for gastric bypass patients (Optisource). Thanks for your responses!
