    Gigabyte Motherboard?
Hey everyone, I've been given an old computer. It's missing quite a few parts and I was wondering if you guys could tell me what its missing exactly. Here are some pictures to help. Thanks.

Well it looks like ALL you have is a motherboard and CPU, so you'll need RAM and graphics as a minimum.

It is also unclear if there is a hard drive and CD/DVD.
The SATA connections are there, but are they actually attached to anything.

I hope you can decipher that. They are the specs for my GA-7NNXP motherboard. Could you please advise me on what I need for it if possible. For example the type of graphics and memory I need and if there is anything else. I do have CD/DVD drives and hard drives so that is fine. Thanks.

What is it you think we can add that your LONG post with the MOBOs specs can't tell you? It lists all the capabilities and compatibilities, tells you what kind of RAM you can use, that the system can use IDE or ATA hard drives...

What more do you want? Most people would simply use the MOBO specs to order the additional components desired. What did you want us to add that's not on that list?

Get at least 512MB (1GB if you plan on using vista) of DDR400 ram
If you don't have a hard drive attached there then get like a 160GB SATA model
    An optical drive or two
If you plan on playing any games get a graphics card, they still make AGP models of some new ones or if you like you can get one from a year or 2 back for cheaper
You didn't take a pic of your case but do you have a PSU installed? If not get a 400W model
  • Jul 4, 2008, 04:06 AM
    Apologisenow
Well I got a couple of PSU's, I think one is 400W so that's fine. But the main question really is do you guys think there is any point in spending money on this? Or is it to old? Thanks.

What do you plan on using the computer for?
  • Jul 4, 2008, 07:16 AM
    Apologisenow
Internet mainly, playing runescape (lol), msn, YouTube, that kind of stuff and playing games if possible.

    JBeaucaire
Except for the Runescape thing, ANY computer can do that, even one 10 years old if it's running.

As long as the MOBO meets the Ruenscape minimal requirements, the rest of your list means go for it.

Hmm OK. Well what speed can I get from the processor on this MOBO? These are the minimum requirements for the highest detail which is what I would want to run. 256 RAM + 1.5Ghz CPU + Nvidia GeForce 3 or equivalent. Would I be able to get that? And What processors can my MOBO take, the latest ones? And what socket is it? Thanks.

EDIT: Is this the best one? AMD Athlon XP 3200+
  • Jul 4, 2008, 11:49 AM
    tf7426
You can easily run that game on high even on the onboard graphics (GeForce 4MX)

From what I've read your mobo doesn't take 3200+ because they have FSB of 400Mhz and your mobo only supports max of 333Mhz so the best proc to get for your mobo would be a 3000+ which runs at 333Mhz (note: there are two models a 333 and 400)

The model numbers of AMDs refers to the pentium chip they are equivalent to. Meaning a 3000+ is equivalent to 3.0Ghz pentium 4 (AMD processors run at lower clock rates than pentiums but achieve higher speeds e.g.. 2200+ runs at 1.8Ghz but performs like a 2.2Ghz p4)

Edit: I just read the specs you posted and they are for several motherboards and some support up to 3200+ and some don't so if you post your exact model would be easier to determine

Im so confused lol. The model is GA-7NNXP, here's a link GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Overview - GA-7NNXP
  • Jul 4, 2008, 12:20 PM
    tf7426
Ooh in that case yeah you can stick a 3200+ in there:)
  • Jul 4, 2008, 12:31 PM
    Apologisenow
Well I've had a look at what its got and it says this, AXDA2600DKV3D. I think that means it has an AMD Athlon XP 2600+. Is that correct? If so what is its FBS and is it any good?

Take a look at this as well, GIGABYTE - Support - Motherboard - FAQ - GA-7NNXP

EDIT: I think its 333? Which means it will run at 2083Mhz is that correct?
  • Jul 4, 2008, 03:50 PM
    tf7426
Yep it has FSB of 333 and real clockrate is 2.08

Right OK I'm going to leave that in there then. Would you be able to assist me on what graphics card I need and memory? Thanks.
