Experienced, but no call back for interview
I have sent resumes to numerous employers, yet no call back. What does this mean when my resume shows that I am experienced, clean record - squeaky clean record (not even as much as a traffic ticket) yet not even as much as an interiew for positions that are available. Could a supervisor place something in my file that I have no right to see? What are my rights when it comes to files versus evaluations. Over the years I have had only positive evaluations.

The job market is VERY competitive.

Are you applying online via a site like careerbuilder.com or monster.com? Those places get so many applications for the jobs posted daily, that I have yet to meet a single person to get a call back from them.

Or are you bringing your resume into the place and handing it to someone? If so, are you calling back to follow up with the manager?

There are many reasons you're not getting a call back. It could be wording on your resume, it could be too many applicants, its hard to say.

I am a certified teacher with over 6 years experience. The years were not consecutive due to several leaves (family and professional leave) as well as relocating just once. Although I was not very social, I got my job done and I did it well (the proof is in the evaluations... or so I thought), yet it has been over a year since reapplying - and nothing...

Background (... maybe this is helpful... )

I even at one point got offered an "intent to work" contract with one school I interviewed with over a year ago only later to have them retract it. It turned out this individual (former supervisor, I generally listed as a reference didn't complete a reference form, however was contacted and spoken with.. . hmmm... what are my rights I wonder? Still doesn't explain no call back from schools for posted jobs...

There are 100's of appications for any one opening, and yes, the off and on employment is perhaps a real factor, over someone with 3 to 10 year of straight employment.

Many places do not do reference forms over say when you worked and when you left.

Even with no gaps in employment and lots of experience I still will get one call per every 20 or so applications/resumes I put in, and that's just for an interview without going through careerbuilder or monster or those sites. And for every 10-20 interviews, I might get a second interview or a job offer. I spent 3 months looking for a job to replace one I hated. I was applying for 6-10 jobs a day, and maybe getting one call for an interview a week. Its frustrating, but you just have to get creative at how you're looking and you're wording your resume.
