Movie: boy communicates with creatures in mine shaft
I watched a made-for-tv movie around 1988-1990 when the Wonderworks specials were airing. A boy and his prospecting father live out west where there is a seemingly bottomless hole in the yard. The father lowers various recording devices into it only to find them ripped to shreds. The boy learns to communicate with unseen creatures living at the bottom of this shaft. He steals meat from the fridge lowering it down in a basket, then when he pulls it back up again it's filled with triangular gold pieces with runic inscriptions and a thank you note. When the father discovers these he gears up like a commando and has the boy lower him down on a platform. When it comes back up again, the father is gone but his suit has been stuffed with gold pieces and a note that says "thank you, tastes like turkey". Any ideas?
