2000 Honda civic ex, won't start.
I have a 2000 Honda Civic EX. Was driving down the road about 50 and the gas light came on, was low on gas. Usuially can go about 10 more miles or so before it runs out. But it hesitated a couple of times and died like it had ran out of gas. I put more gas in but still wouldn't crank. I checked the fuel filter and replaced, still no start. Im getting fuel shooting out the fuel injectors and into cylinders, Im getting spark on all 4 new plugs. I have at least 100lbs of compression on all 4 cylinders, and I took the cover off for the timing cover and belt appears in good condition, I lined up the TDC mark on the crank and checked number 1 piston was at TDC. Then checked the cam gear, it was lined up the way the repair manual says it should and then took the distrubuter cap off and the rotor was facing the number 1 wire. Check engine light never came on and I can't get a code to show up. So have fuel, spark, timing, compression, and no codes but car still just turns over and won't crank. Im stumped. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I don't understand "car just turns over and won't crank." Perhaps that is "car cranks but won't fire." Check the valve train, excessive valve lash can make valve timing off, even if timing marks are good... so can worn valves/seats... good luck.

Ive been through all I can think of without just changing everything. Had 3 other people check timing on crank pully, cam gear and distrubuter just to make sure I didn't miss something. The CEL comes on and goes off after 2 seconds and I hear the main relay click. Also can hear the fuel pump run. The k-test at the map sensor was good showed 5 volts. Replaced the plugs, cap, rotor button, wires and even the ICM. Coil ohmms out good. I have good spark at the end of the plugs when I test them out of the cylinder. Compression was good on all 4 cyclinders checked with gauge. I removed the injectors from the intake and hooked them to the fuel rail, I had someone turn the car over and all 4 shot fuel out at timed intervals, until after a few seconds the pressure wanted to blow the injectors out of the fuel rail, so I figured I had good pressure and fuel in the cyclinders.. The sensors inside the distributer all ohm out at around 375 so I figured they are good. Also check valve lash just to be sure and all are good. Still no start. I checked the exhaust as well thinking maybe catalyct converter was clogged but it was OK. Still no CEL codes at all. Im lost. Checked everything I can think of and has been recommeded even syphoned all the gas out and replaced with fresh gas.

I had similar symptoms with my 98 ex. If possible try exchanging your entire distributor with a friend or any possible source. My distributor checked out good with resistance checks also. For me, replacing the distributor did the trick.

Thanks for all the good advice. I had replaced a map sensor, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter, and icm even though everything checked out. Finially after the last post I just went and bought a new distrubuter, and bam it fixed it. Even though all the sensors inside ohmed out good and I was getting good voltage in and out and fire at the plugs, the old distributer still was bad. I talked to a guy a few nights ago and he said he had similar problem and the contacter on the distributer shaft was what was bad. Thanks again for the advice.
