Does it help to turn your car off while at a light, in traffic, also to drive slower to help consume gas. What are other tips for saving gas?:confused:
(1) Hanging out around 55-60 mph
(2) Filling tank early in a.m. (gas expands as the day warms up)
(3) Accelerating slowly & smoothly
(4) Slowing well ahead of stopping
(5) Driving a well-tuned auto
(6) Inflating tires at proper level
(7) Fill tank only half-way (avoid weight of the other half tank of gas)
(8) Keep air filter clean (blow it out or change as necessary)
(9) Maintain oil changes on time
(10) Discuss additives with your mechanic
Our local news channel said that it's more economical to shut your car off if you wait for more than 30 seconds. That might be OK at a drive through, but I think it's unsafe to shut down in traffic. Coasting with the engine off can damage a transaxle or automatic transmission. I have the wife leave our engine running.

The little itsy-bitsy bit of fuel that most cars consume while sitting still at any stop, is minuscule compared to the amount of hurt you would put on the battery and starter, should they be required to re-start the vehicle's engine every few minutes or so, depending on one's commute.
There are many parameters that can contrubute to lesser fuel consumption: more people per car, for one thing.
Do you allow the engine to warm up and does the entire drivetrain get to "warm up?"
Some components in your car or trucks drivetrain perform better once they've reach nominal operating temperatures.
