    Ceiling fan switch wiring
I Am Replacing A Ceiling Fan Switch. The Fan Has Blue, Black, red And White Wires. The New Switch (all I Could Find) Has Blue, Black, And Red Wires. I Connect Red To Red,black To Black, And Blue To Blue (do Not Connect White) And Nothing Happens. Where Does The White Wire Go, Or, What Am I Doing Wrong? Thanks

Is this a 3-way switch (switched from 2 locations)?

Are there other switches in the same box?

Normally white is a neutral in a 120 volt circuit, and is needed to complete a circuit to power lights, motors, appliances, etc.

Also wires coming out of the fan are usually:
    Black : Fan motor
Blue : to light or light kit
    White : neutral

You may need to run a continuity test on the switch and see what wires go where. The white wires may connect together common to the fan and light. The other wires make the loops to the fan and light through the switch. I would think the switch would have a hot (black wire) coming in and the blue and red wires go out to make the loop.
