Social Security Number for SPOUSE and CHILD : USA
I moved to USA on Dec 17, 2007 along with my family.

I am on L1 and dependents are on L2 visa.

SSN administration denied to provide SSN to my spouse and kid since spouse is non-working.

My question is how would I claim for tax benefits while filing the TAX returns, because
On-line application asks for SSN no. for dependents.

    Any help would be great.

For 2007, you can not file resident tax return. You must file nonresident tax return, which can not be e-filed. Read about Substantial Presence Test: Your U.S. Tax Return: Substantial Presence Test

For 2008, you can file resident tax return as married filing jointly. You will attach W7 (ITIN application) with your tax return.

Further, given the fact that you were in the U.S. for less than one month, it is likely that you owe ZERO income taxes for 2007, since only the U.S.-sourced income is taxed.

Your personal exemption of $3,400 probably exceeded what you earned in the U.S. in 2007
