I have had highlights put in my previously coloured mid brown hair trying to diguise my greying hairs the top is now much more than 50% grey. I'm only in my 30s and was happy to go along with this suggestion, the plan being that the grey hair would blend in with the highlights. Now 3 months on I look like I have been hit on the head with a chalkboard rubber right down my parting. All the salon could say was I have to put up with that until it grows out, (Oh or zig-zag my parting, I'm not 16 you know)Could I put a semi perm colour on the roots maybe mid blonde. Please help

Yes you could put on that mid blond oolour, but even better is to do your whole head that mid blond colour. What you will get is a vague highlights that won't be noticeable from the new growth and won't look unusual at all. I use LOreal colours because they are basically a vey good semi perm. Dye without damaging.

I can't believe the salon thought that would work for you. When I went prematurely gray, I started dying it blonde and being outdoors all the time, it would fade to very light and my regrowth wasn't noticeable at all. I don't know what length your hair is, but may you would consider shorter hair and do the same as I did.

Thanks tickle my hair at the moment is like v.beckhams short bob cut very short into my neck. The back is still quite dark but the top and front are very light, the salon have almost framed my face with very light blonde highlights. Looked fab and very modern at first, but is now looking like I can't afford to get my roots done. It would be quite brave to go completely blonde though!!

You wouldn't have to be completely blond. That's why I suggested LOreal... many shades available, but don't pick anyone with ash tones. Not good. I have been PURPLE from using ash tones. Or have you ever seen senior ladies with blue hair!! That has happened too, but now I can use the very lightest blondes because my hair is completely white and it turns out very natural and of course from gardening and jogging, walking the colour fades and blends in with natural gray.

I am a stylist... I think that if you are happy with the dark on bottom and light on top look( which I think is very classy) You could use a color like these ladies are suggesting and only do your roots on top and leave the rest dark like it has been. Not to mention, color won't lift color so if they used dark on botttom and that's not just your natural it won't work anyway.

Thanks the only thing that concerns me is what colour will the very white highlight go if I put a blonde colour on, will they go yellowy

You shouldn't color over the highlights anyway, especially with box color. Choose a color that will blend well... and it depends what color you choose and what base it has as to if it will be yellow whether you put it over the highlights or not... if the top was pretty heavily weaved yit should blend pretty well with a light blonde that has a neutral base

Thanks for that, I'll try a semi permanent colour, I'm note sure what the long term options would be, which is why the salon suggested lots of highlights, which initially looked great but now just look cheap and nasty. The answer would be to have my roots done every 3 weeks, but my hair nor my purse could take that sort of punishment. Thanks again for your help
