Does any one know if sony ever plans on making a patch or whatever to make it to where 40 gig ps3s can play the ps2 games and ps1's?

I do not think they ever will make one.
Sony is there to sell their products and make a profit.
They make lots more profit by selling complete new software packages , than by selling patches that link old software to new stuff.
