I read this book a few years back, and I'm having such a hard time remembering the title, and unfortunately, not as many details as I had hoped!

Ok, a jazz club is a prominent setting in the story... and one of the more prominent characters is an African American male, who has begun dating a white woman. It is set in a time when that was more controversial than it is today... I remember that he has lots of internal conflict and ends up hurting her. It was a very good book, and I'm shocked that I can't remember more of it!

Could it be a Walter Mosley novel?

I checked out your idea, and I do believe that it was written earlier than Walter Mosley's writings... maybe 70's era, I'm not sure. Thanks for the idea, though.
