My basement has been roughed in for a bathroom and I am trying to figure out how to install the shower base. The shower that I bought slopes down toward the drain hole and sits flush with the concrete at the drain hole. So in order to have room to attach the shower drain to the 2" pipe coming out of the ground do I need to break out some of the concrete around the pipe or build a sub-floor under the shower to raise it up and make room for the drain connection?

Hi Randy,

I'm a little confused. If you're setting flush with the floor with the shower base you should be able to set the base on the stubup and simply glue it in.

Well, all of the shower drains that I have seen attach to the outside of a 2 inch pvc pipe. Since the concrete floor is right up against the 2 inch pipe coming out of the ground, and the drain hole sits flush with the concrete, there is know room to attach the shower drain to the pipe. Is there a shower drain that glues to the inside of the pvc pipe?

I misunderstood your question. It isn't the shower base that sets flush with the floor it's the shower stubup. Some one didn't do you any favors. You are correct. You're going to have to break out some of the concrete around the pipe and install a 2" DWV Coupling and bring that raiser up over the floor line and patch the cement or build a sub-floor under the shower to raise it up and make room for the drain connection. I don't see any other options. While they do make replacement shower drains, they slip over the pipe not inside it. Good luck, Tom
