I am about to tear out the cheap shower/tub that came with our house and replace it with a tiled shower. Currently the on/off for the shower is above the tub faucet and I'd like to raise it to normal standing shower height and I need help! I haven't torn the tub out yet but I am guessing that it will be PVC piping. Can anyone help with some instruction? Thanks everyone!

Thanks for the link to the other post but what I was really looking for was the info on how to raise the tub faucet to shower height. My new pan, I went with a Schluter system since the whole thing is getting tile, should fit over the existing drain but if I not I can see I will have lots of fun digging up my slab. But to get rid of the tub faucet and raise the on/off seems like an easy fix but I need some direction. Thanks!

Are you thinking the water pipe behind the tub surround will be PVC..

If so.. confirm that for me.

Anyway, I think I understand that you simply want to raise the tub/shower valve to a comfortable height... right?

Let me ask a few questions... get a few answers and then we can make this happen so all goes smoothly... ;)

How old is this valve you want to move up?

How many handles? Sounds as if a single handle.. but want to be sure.

Can you post a picture of this valve if needed?

Other then that... plan on shutting water off, cutting into existing pipe, and raising valve as you expect will happen.

All really depends on what is behind that wall!! Once wall opened if post pic. We can respond pretty quick and tell you the fittings/pipe required... and... worst case... if you need to scrap the old valve and go for a new one!

Cut the existing h/c water supplies, glue in couplings on each pipe, glue in new sections of pipe as high as you desire ( usually between 42"-48" high from the floor ) and install new body onto new pipe.

You are not saying what type of tub/shower valve you presently have. Some can be converted into shower only ( usually those with 2 handles). You just plug the tub spout outlet and use the shower outlet only.

If your original tub/shower valve has 3 handles ( hot, cold & diverter) than you probably want to purchase new valve. In this case, diverter valve would be unusable.
