Hi, I obviously made a really bad decision and tried shoplifting from the Bay. The instore security piced me up and charged me. The Police came and said if they decide to charge me I'll know by mail in a month or two. What should I do know? I regret doing it and I can't imagine having to wait 2 months to know if I've been charged or not. I am 19 years old so would I be able to enter a diversion program. Help.

What's the dollar amount and do you have a past criminal history?

The 2 months is probably to make you suffer.

I see you doing some sort of community service, possibly a fine, probably restitution - but there are other factors.

There recently as an article about how much shoplifting in Canada alone costs retailers so it's a hot subject right now and I have no idea what The Bay's policy is.

I am surprised - about 75% of the shoplifting questions are from Canada. Wonder why - ?

THe dollar amount was probably around 75 dollars and I have no past criminal record. Is there no way to find out sooner, is there a chance that I won't get charged at all because the cop said if they could they would but they didn't know if the paper work would go through.

The two months will give you enough time to reflect on the "badesicion" you made. The psychological stress of not knowing can be excruitating (aren't the Canadians crafty to have thought of this exquisite psychological torture?)
